The cottage is set within the courtyard of Lone Barn. With Melanie’s interest in interiors and Paul’s expertise in carpentry they have thought of everything to equip and furnish it to a very high standard. The open plan kitchen, sitting/dining room with its large vaulted and beamed ceiling gives spacious living accommodation with a warming woodburner for those chillier days, flat screen TV with Freeview and DVD player. CD player and ipod docking station/speakers. French doors open out onto the courtyard for some summer sunshine and where meals/barbecues can be enjoyed on the terrace.

The cottage is always decked with fresh flowers and a bowl of fruit, local paper and magazines along with the scrumptious goodie basket. Brochures for local places of interest and activities can be found along with local ordnance survey maps. Paul and Melanie, are both a found of information on the local area and can recommend walks, bike rides, places to visit and eat etc. Local lavender products adorn the shelf in the bathroom (can be purchased for gifts to take home if required) and basic kitchen ingredients and kitchen linen also provided.

The goodie basket includes, Melanie’s homemade bread, homemade cake, milk, local free range eggs, local apple juice, bacon, tomatoes and butter. Just enough to cook up a great breakfast on your first morning. Eating out isn’t a problem either at the many country pubs locally or nearby restaurants and takeaways.

The cottage accommodation comprises of a large open plan living area with solid oak flooring, comfortable seating for 6 around the woodburner, oak dining table and chairs seat 6/8. The bespoke kitchen has been made by Pauls carpentry company with a mixture of oak and painted units with oak worktops. On the ground floor there is a twin bedroom with ensuite shower room. A double bedroom with ensuite bathroom. From this bedroom a circular staircase winds its way to ‘the Den’ in the attic, where there are 2 futon style beds and due to its restricted head height we only recommend this for children. A second television can be found in the Den.

If you are looking for extra accommodation perhaps for the whole week or just a few nights, then we also have a separate double suite which comprises, double room with ensuite shower room and its own sitting room with woodburner. It has its own entrance off the courtyard and is separate from the cottage. It enables perhaps Grandparents to have a bit of piece and quiet if needs be or for those extra guests who want to pop over for supper but dont want to drive back home. Melanie ensures that the cottage is more like a home rather than a holiday stopover and hope that guests respect it as if it was their home.

Lone Barn has a large garden, with various areas where you can steal some peace and quiet, sit and read a book, sit idly on the swing seat, hit a shuttlecock over the badminton net, set to the outdoor skittles or take to the tennis court (in need of repair but good enough for a game). The garden is shared with the owners, but there is plenty of space for everyone to find that hidden corner.
